The client required a Retail Garden Centre with plant nursery and associated external works. These facilities are sited at the edge of a fresh water Lagoon (Knuckey’s Lagoon) which is a sanctuary for native bird life. The existing Industrial structure has been integrated into the development as a furniture warehouse and store. Similarly, the existing bungalow has been adapted for reuse as a restaurant and coffee shop.
Industrial size adjustable louvres on opposite sides of the main building turn the interior of the building into a breezeway.
This project won the RAIA NT Chapter BHP Steel Award in 1998.
