Darwin International Airport Terminal

Curved roof planes and cantilevered awnings contrast with smooth wall cladding panels and tall panes of dark tinted glazing to evoke an aeronautical image at Darwin Airport Passenger Terminal. The terminal, which won an RAIA Northern Territory Chapter award for Corporate and Office Design, has become a stylish and functional showpiece for Australia’s northern gateway.

Designed to withstand cyclones, the two-storey steel framed structure incorporates all modern facilities to streamline arrivals and departures on the lower level in a vaulted space featuring skylighting. Lounges, shops, customs and immigration are located on the upper level. Passengers use three new aerobridges to board and disembark.

The linear plan is designed to allow for long term expansion in an east-west direction.
